WebNet Tour
Access is divided into 3 main levels.OwnerThere is only 1 Owner and is the User Id that created the WebNet DB. The Owner access level is the highest and allows for all possible access combinations. UserThere can be any number of Users, which originate from a registration. A User is identified with a Login of the same name and is allocated by the Owner. LoginA Login Id is allocated by the User in order to distribute a variety of access rights at the category level. Login Id "DEMO" will allow for a quick navigation down through some example categories to retrieve some sample data. A drill down path through Employment/Junior Positions/New Positions should reach the data (there are only male entries). Login Id "TRYIT" is a free for all access to allow anybody to take WebNet for a drive and explore its possible capabilities. Go here to Login to WebNet (the Login to the left is for Plone).
Access RightsAccess rights are either implied by the access level or assigned by the User to each Login. Each new Login Id must be allocated by the User from the Home Category page. This will establish default access rights throughout the User site. However individual category access can be established by adding new sets of access rights from within a particular category. This will result in a set of Function Buttons appearing on the left of each page each representing the right of access to the various WebNet administration functions.
Available functions are:For the Owner and User Login
The Owner and any Login given explicit rights
RequestsThe Requests button will display all current outstanding requests in the system. For the Owner this will include requests from all Users, for Users this will show requests for all Logins associated with the User, while at Login level only requests for that Id will be shown. Any successfully completed requests will not be displayed. Maintain LoginThis option will allow for the maintenance of User Logins. Users are allocated a Login Id equal to their User Id by the Owner. The Owner can only create a new Login as the result of accepting a new registration. Once this has been accepted the new User must have a profile, with the requested password on the registration form, created for the host DB in order to grant access to WebNet data functions. Any User can allocate extra Login Id's in order to distribute a variety of access rights. Login passwords are initially blank and can be set at the first Login session (ASAP would be wise). RegisterHere is where a User Id is created or details changed when necessary. For a new User Id the request is held in the system until the System Administrator (Owner) is happy for the registration to proceed (email validation etc). Maintain CategoriesCategory maintenance allows for a menu type tree structure to be built to facilitate the categorisation and easy finding of data. Each User has their own set of categories. These are stored in a family tree type structure where the parent has children which has siblings. The Home Category is the oldest ancestor so the first entry is a child. Each first child must be given a code to represent it and any siblings. There is no need to re-enter the code (or category name) for a sibling. If a new code is entered then it is assumed this is a new category and inserted as the first child of a new tree branch. Maintain PagesFrom any child (once selected by clicking it's twistie button) a page of data may be created. A page can contain up to 99 fields, or properties, to enable data collection. Each property needs to be assigned a unique number for it to be identified to WebNet. Once identified a few characteristics of the property need to be identified. Such as the Data Type (be it numeric or text etc) and length. It's order of appearance on the page is destined by the key field value. If numeric then this field will be prompted for during Data Maintenance in order to identify the record to be maintained. Any other value will assign the field it's position in the main body of the page. The Display Key equally controls the appearance of the field on the page for the Displaying Data function. In order to group fields together then assign each the same key value. These groupings will then be displayed by Description in descending value order. Maintain DataData Maintenance allows for the entry and subsequent modification of data that can appear on this particular page. The data fields will appear as described by the page maintenance procedure. If multiple records are retrieved for maintenance then only the record attached to the clicked Submit button will be modified. Refer to the field level help (indicated by ?) for further details. Display DataThis option facilitates the retrieval and display of data for this particular page as specified by the page maintenance process. The initial prompt will be for the entry of key values. Certain fields, such as text and dates, will allow for the entry of a key range to broaden the query. Import DataThis option allows for data to be imported into a page. The data must first be uploaded in either a file named data.csv, data.txt or data.imp. The easiest option is to upload in the standard csv format, for other options consult the WebNet Owner. This option is only available if the Login Id has Maintain Data rights. Each row of data must be in the order that the fields appear on the Maintain Data page. Export DataThis allows for data to be exported into a .csv formatted file and sent via email to the address specified in the Login Id profile. Only available if the Login Id has Display Data rights and a valid email address specified. Document Actions |
